The Truth About Fat

Fat is not all bad.  In fact, fat is a macronutrient ( meaning we need it in modest amounts) to survive and thrive.

Just to clarify what I mean by large amounts, no more than 30% of our our total calories/kj should come from fat.

Currently Australia’s population well and truly exceed this.  Ever been to a food court?

 

Not all fats are the same.

Unless you have had your head under a pillow you should have heard about the different types of fats; The good -unsaturated, The bad – saturated and the downright ugly – trans fats.

What you should be aiming to reduce and eliminate are the trans fats.  Saturated should make up no more than 10% of calories consumed.

In order to eliminate the uglies (trans) you need to avoid the following: commercially produced margarines, pastries, and cakes just to name a few.

To decrease your saturated fat intake you need to reduce the fat in your dairy products.  Change the full cream milk ( 10g per glass ) to skim milk ( .01% per glass).  Choose lean cuts of meat and decrease any processed meats.

Saturated fats are  in animal products and some plant foods such as coconut oil, palm oil and cocoa butter.

 

Finding the good.

As far as fat goes, a little is a lot.  To add some good fats to your diet you can add 1/4 of an avacado, 10 walnuts or almonds, 10g of chia or flaxseed. ( per day, not per meal)

This is plenty to provide your body with the right environment for your body to thrive.

 

What “they” tell you….

Most of what you see in the media is marketing!!!  It is not the truth, it is a moulding of the truth so that their product seems more appealing than it actually is.

You see in our Western World that we have created, everything is about the bottom line.  $$$$$$$  CAsh CASH CAsh.

If you aren’t willing to make crap up to sell your crap then “they” will find someone who will.

nutrifacts-minIn regards to packaged food, the most important piece of information is that thing on the back called the nutrition label, or as I like to call it the lack of nutrition label.

The column that you should be most concerned with is the amount of product per 100g .  On the label beside us this has 17.4g of fat per 100g.  That is huge!!

Stick to products that are less than 5g of fat and only eat the serving size recommended.

 

 

We are what we believe.

Sometimes it is good to take a step back from the chaos that is your head and think clearly and without the prejudice that we have created through our years of living.

Most of us go through our daily lives doing our daily tasks mindlessly.  Habit takes over and sometimes we just do it out of habit, good or bad it is usually what makes us function.

The only time we change something is if it suddenly causes us disfunction or we wake up one morning and think I am sick of this shit!!!

 

Why we do what we do…..

Why do we do what we do?

Well because we always have.

Are you happy with what you have got?

If the answer is yes then keep on keeping on.

If your not happy or contented then stop doing what you are doing.

If you do the same thing you will get he same results you always have.

Get out of your comfort zone and do things differently to become a better version of you.  A positive, glass half full type of you.
